Sizing, Style, and Sydney Sweeney: A Lingerie Designer’s Take on the New SYRN Launch

    If you’ve been anywhere near the internet this week, you’ve seen it: the viral Sydney Sweeney Hollywood Sign stunt, the aerial footage of bras fluttering against the Los Angeles skyline, and the massive launch of her new brand, SYRN (pronounced "Siren").

    As a fellow designer in the intimate apparel industry, my DMs immediately flooded with questions. Are you worried about the competition? What do you think of the designs? Is the Seductress collection actually good?

    The honest answer? I am thrilled she is here.

    When a star like Sydney Sweeney enters the chat—bringing with her a massive spotlight on lace aesthetics and lingerie confidence—it lifts the entire industry. But her launch also brought up a critical conversation about sizing that I want to address directly, designer-to-customer.

    The "Seductress" Aesthetic: A Win for Classic Lingerie

    First, let’s talk style. SYRN launched with the "Seductress" collection, and it marks a refreshing return to bold, unapologetic femininity. We are seeing a move away from the "beige minimalism" of recent years and a return to intricate details—something our brand has championed for years.

    Sydney has been vocal that this is "lingerie you wear for YOU," not just for a partner. We couldn’t agree more. Whether it’s her cinematic, vintage-inspired cuts or the detailed lace work we prioritize in our own studio, the goal is the same: to make the woman looking in the mirror feel like the main character.

    The 44-Size Question: Why We Don’t "Just Scale Up"

    Perhaps the biggest headline from the launch is SYRN’s inclusive sizing, boasting a range of 44 sizes from 30B to 42DDD, including what she calls "enhanced sizing" for fuller cups.

    This is an incredible feat of production. And naturally, it brings up a question I often get from my own customers: "Why don’t you offer that many sizes yet?"

    It’s a fair question, and the answer comes down to one word: Respect.

    In the mass-market fashion industry, there is a common practice called "grading." This is where a brand takes a sample pattern (usually a Size Small) and mathematically scales it up to a 2XL or 3XL. They use the exact same design ratios, just bigger.

    I fundamentally oppose this approach.

    A woman with a 42DDD cup has a completely different center of gravity, different support needs, and different "architectural" requirements than a woman with a 30B cup. To take a design meant for a smaller frame and simply force it onto a larger body isn't inclusivity—it’s laziness. It often results in straps that dig, cups that spill, and a silhouette that doesn't honor the wearer's curves.

    Architecture Over Expansion

    At [Your Brand Name], we are currently "conservative" with our sizing range not because we don't want to serve everyone, but because we refuse to serve you poorly.

    I believe that true respect for the female body means designing specific products that are architecturally engineered for that body type. I am not yet ready to release a product for larger aesthetics until I know it is as beautiful, supportive, and scientifically sound as our core range.

    We are not interested in "grading up" a small pattern. We are interested in building a unique structure that honors the physics of your curves.

    So, while we applaud Sydney for tackling the 30B to 42DDD challenge out of the gate, we are sticking to our path: mastering the architecture of every single size we sell, one step at a time.
